In September the Bank of Russia announced the introduction of modified banknotes of two face-values: 500 and 5000 roubles. Elena Rumiantseva, Deputy Head of Division of Currency Units and Preventive Measures against Counterfeiting of Cash Turnover Department of the Bank of Russia, explained when the Russians will be able to receive the new banknotes and how the informational campaign will be carried out.

In 2011 Goznak issued two promotional banknotes. To be more precise, they are two modifications of one banknote – with various security features. Alexander Mochalov, Head of Division of Security Technology Development of Goznak, described the peculiarities of the unusual issue.

The Fourth International Watermark Conference – 2011 took place on June 21 – 23 in Rostov-on-Don. It is the only Conference on Security Printing in Russia. It is held biannually in various cities of Russia. In 2011 over 260 delegates from 23 countries of the world came to Rostov-on-Don to take part in the conference.

At the end of April 2011 Goznak completed the work and dispatched the press-run of three face-values for Lebanon. The order was carried out according to the results of the tender won by Goznak in September 2010. Igor Pavlov, Head of Division of Creating and Modification of Products, described the work and the new banknotes secured with the new elements of Goznak.

A PRINTING HOUSE OF BROAD SPECTRUM

The Moscow Printing House of Goznak not only produces security products but is also engaged into the document personalization

In June 2011 the Moscow Printing House – Branch of Goznak celebrated its 65th anniversary. The first order for the Printing House was the production of banknotes of the model of 1947. Later on geographic maps, artistic albums, post envelopes, lottery tickets were printed here… In the 1990s it was here that the vouchers were printed.

In the course of time the production of special and excise stamps for alcoholic and tobacco products was set up here (it is still carried out). The banknote production with which the history of the Printing House had started 65 years ago was taken away from here a long time ago. Today the Printing House is starting a new period of its history. Roman SOBOLEV, its Director, told us about its perspectives.

WILL THE "SPOOF BANK" STOP THE EMISSION?

The market of souvenir banknotes is expecting sweeping changes

The Ministry of Inner Affairs of Russia proposes to charge those producing souvenir banknotes and other copies of currency units of the size of the original banknote. The Ministry has prepared the corresponding amendments to the Law “About the Central Bank” and the Administrative Offense Code. The legislative draft is placed at the site of the office for public discussion.

A VERY UNIVERSAL CARD

Federal Law “About organizing the state and municipal service provision” implying the universal electronic card system creation was enacted in 2010

According to the developers’ intention, such cards should unite a multitude of functions by being simultaneously an ID document, a medical insurance policy, a payment card, a retirement certificate and a public transport ticket. Mass issuing of the universal electronic cards is planned to start on January 1, 2012.

But the term reality raises doubts of many experts already: too many matters are not solved yet, including one of the most important – the financing matter, on which the necessary infrastructure creation depends.
